Dongyue Ji Yi Temple, located at Xinjiang county of Yunchengin Shanxi Province, is under the key national-level protection.130-square-meter murals, whose theme is about myth and legendand historical stories, whose content is about the agriculture;which eulogizes behaviors that the Gods of Agriculture inculcatedpeople in ancient times into growing and reaping and worked hardfor the benefit of ones, which also describes the performance ofancient people’s conquering nature, conserved so well as China’sexisting representative works of murals in the Ming dynasty.During the murals, there are so many landscapes and people livingand at work in the south of Shanxi province, reflecting the richcultural connotation and humanistic spirit.The thesis aims at deeply excavating the murals’cultureconnotation and outstanding artistic characteristics byinvestigation into the murals’theme and contents. The thesis isdivided into five parts except the part of Introduction. The firstpart is that the historical evolution of its murals and currentsituation of Dongyue Ji Yi Temple. The second part mainlydiscusses contents and artistic features of murals of Dongyue JiYi Temple. In this part, the contents of murals of Dongyue Ji Yi Temple are analyzed in detail. What’s more, its artistic featuresare shown in every aspect, from the composition, the color to theline. The third part is a discussion of folk culture implied inDongyue Ji Yi Temple, respectively explained in the myth andlegend, farming culture, the folk hell culture and others. Thefourth part is about the region characteristic of Dongyue Ji YiTemple, which is demonstrated by the inheritance and evolutionof Dongyue Ji Yi concluded by comparing different kinds ofexisting murals’features or styles in Shanxi that are exemplifiedin the thesis. The fifth part is about characteristic of the age,which is discussed by the analysis of dragon’s dermatoglyphicpatterns and characteristics of the characters’clothing inDongyue Ji Yi Temple, expounding the murals’brightcharacteristics of the age.Through several decades of stormy years, Dongyue Ji YiTemple still shines the bright shining art lights. It is the precioustreasure that Chinese traditional culture and the painting isdeeply stored in. It is the rich national heritage and the pride ofthe Chinese nation.
