The Metrical Study Of Modal Particles In"the Scholars"

"The Scholars" is written after "A Journey to the West", before "A Dream of Red Mansions", also about four hundred years since the first feature-length vernacular novel "Outlaws of the Marsh" has appeared,its use of the vernacular is more mature. It comes as the creation of the key period of the transformation of neoteric Chinese to modern Chinese, the inevitable characteristics of the times can reflect the feature of the Ming and Qing language, so it has a very high value of the corpus.This article is mainly studied the modal particles of "The Scholars", I adopted the special,exhaustive and comprehensive study on the modal particles of this monograph,get the statistics of quantity and frequency of use on classical Chinese modal particles, modern modal particles,and its use in succession. And for each usage of modal particles, the tone of expression are described in detail. The use of modal particles in "The Scholars", modem vernacular model of the "Outlaws of the Marsh","The Midnight" and "A Dream of Red Mansions" are compared to analyze the similarities and differences, summarizes the change of modern Chinese modal particle use. I hope that through my research, the reader can get better understanding of the use of modern modal particles.This article is constituted by five chapters:First chapter of this article summarizes the research status of modal particle, the research significance and methods of "The Scholars".The second chapter statistics all the modal particle which appear in "The Scholars",and lists the data.The third chapter describes and analysis all the modal particles in "The Scholars" one by one.The forth chapter compares the modal particles in "The Scholars" with "Outlaws of the Marsh","The Midnight" and "A Dream of Red Mansion",and draws some understanding of the development track of modal particles, we also compare the modal particles in "The Scholars" with the modern modal particles. The fifth chapter is the conclusion part, this paper expounds the main conclusion and the shortage of this paper to the further study.
