As a Jewish American at the middle and the end of the20thcentury, Saul Bellowplays a key role in the history of the English literature based on profound themes, widebackground,and,consummate narrative methods shown in his texts. For a betterunderstanding of Bellow’s literary works, the thesis intends to discuss Bellow’s narrativeart based on narratology.The thesis includes three parts: introductory part, main body and conclusion. Theintroductory part relates briefly about Bellow’s life experience, the current Saul Bellowstudy both at home and abroad, the purpose of this paper, the approaches that are to beemployed in the paper, and some problems that need to deal with in this paper. The mainbody is composed of three chapters. Chapter One is to discuss Saul Bellow ’s recountingmultiple visual arts, taking Herzog as an example, the author discusses how to behavethe inner world of the characters. Chapter Two is to discuss the narrative language ofBellow’s work. Taking Henderson the Rain King as an analytical text,to discuss theromanticism and satirical comedy language style. Chapter Three discusses Saul Bellow’snarrative time art, analyses the use of the conscious stream skills, taking Humboldt ’sGift as an analytical text. The conclusion part is to sum up the whole paper and lays anextra emphasis on his use of the unique narrative technique to express human’s pursuit ofspirit and thinking reality,emboding Saul Bellow’s important position in the history ofliterature.
