The Yuan Dynasty was a period which was governed by minority nationality, calligraphy wasinfected by Meng fu Zhao’s “fugu” idea, he claimed “fugu” and advocates “er wang”. During thatperiod, a few high---intellectuals with Han culture emerged in the minority nationalities. Owing to theirsocial backgrounds and special status, they could communicate with the Han intellectuals. Nao Nao KangLifor one was one of the prominent. As he was a prime officer and minority nationality calligrapher, hiscalligraphy had strong influence over generation after generation descendents. He also made a positiveand undeleted contribution to the communication of ethnic culture.My thesis can be divided into five parts except introduction. The introduction gives an account ofthe study situation of Nao Nao KangLi’s calligraphy and the backgrounds of its forming. Five otherparts give an overall and careful explanation respectively, which include his life resume, the experienceand theoretical ideas of his calligraphy,his calligraphy’s main characteristics, its status in Yuan Dynastyand influences on the later. The thesis employs such methods and comparison, textual research and plateillustration, etc, which will offer the possible readers a better concept of Nao Nao KangLi’s appeal incalligraphy.The aim of my writing is to have a overall knowledge of Nao Nao KangLi’s calligraphy, and tosupply a model in the prosperous times of today. I hope we our young men devote in our national culturaldevelopment.
