In chinese,verbal nominalization,a kind of special linguistic phenomenon,has been widely concerned by the scholars in China’s academic circle. Because Chinese is an inflectionless language which lacks the strict morphological changes.There is no difference between verb and verbal nominalization in form,but their positions in sentence have the substantial differences.This dissertation focuses on the nature of verbs that occur as subjects or objects in a clause and a preliminary explanation to this phenomenon is provided through the application of the distinction between summary scanning and sequential scanning in cognitive linguistics. And this can help the foreign students to learn the parts of speech in chinese. This paper is divided into five chapters,with the contents described as follows:Chapter one:Introduction. This part mainly summarizes the content and significance of this article,research background and current situation,focusing on verbal nominalization.Chapter Two:Theoretical basics.Discussing the human cognitive ability,category theory and so on,mainly introduces the mental scanning theory:summary scanning and sequential scanning, and illustrates the relationship between the two kinds of scannning and verbal nominalization.Chapter three:Analyse emphatically the cognitive motivation and mechanism about verbal nominalization. Explore the in-depth reasons of the verbal nominalization.Chapter four:Depending on the mental scanning theory, categorize the verbal nominalization.Chapter five:Conclusion.The purpose of this part is to summarize the entire thesis, the limitations of the study, and suggestions for further study. |
