As a material cultural phenomenon, small town exist as the requirement of human being development. Along with the development of human being history, small town shows its cultural features of different eras. Modern Chinese history revolutions contribute to the peculiarity of small town which exists between urban and rural areas. A flood of small-town-born modern Chinese writers, who look back and reconsider their hometown from the perspective of the crevice between urban and rural areas, put small city in the stream of the enlightenment and national war and bring out the peculiarity of small city’s cultural atmosphere. Compared to urban and rural areas, the intermediary and inclusive features of small town makes it more concentratedly and representatively show the features of the era, nation, society, writer and culture etc., which forms a particular perspective for us to learn modern Chinese society and modern literature. The meaning of small town literature to modern Chinese literature is that it solves the dilemma between urban literature and rural literature, urban theme and rural theme, which the "method of dichotomy"theoretic research cannot explain. As a result, it promotes us to carry out creative innovation on modern novels. On the basis of the above mentioned points, this dissertation will choose the small towns around Sichuan in the eyes of Mordern Bashu writers as a case study of small town, under the small town literature research theories frame. This dissertation contains three chapters. The first chapter will focus on analyzing small town’s sights, scenes and landmarks, aiming to create the concept of "small town in literature". From the perspective of space, the literature project of the small towns of Sichuan is a result of writers’ subjective emotion and creative thoughts. As the important elements of small town, the streets, tea bars, motels, etc. play a significant role in the social public culture system of small town. In chapter two, from the perspective of era, the author will discuss the social changes of the small towns of Sichuan from Revolution of 1911 Eve to the outbreak of Anti-Japanese War. Before the Revolution of 1911, the main conflicts of small town’s social culture focused on modern and tradition. From the Revolution of 1911 to the outbreak of Anti-Japanese War, small town society went through the impact and decline of "Five Four Enlightenment Thought", which mainly showed on various social classes’choice and compromise, when facing the new changes of the small town society. This also implied the doom of didacticism in Sichuan. During the Anti-Japanese War, the small towns of Sichuan were promoted from the edge to the center status. The emergence of lots of new stuff woke up the citizens of the Middle Age in the small towns of Sichuan. They started to concern social important issues, however, the effect of new stuff was only limited to level of testing history experiences. Small towns of Sichuan kept their tenacity and inertia as "every change is around the same thing". The particular anti-war rear status only brought the variation of distortion of the small towns’citizens and things. Chapter three will concentrate on three groups of people in the small towns of Sichuan, which including small town women, small town intellectuals, and small town army and bandits. On the one hand, they were not modern citizens, and their degree of absorbing modern thoughts was limited, so that their pursuit of dreams was only limited to the level of life itself, instead of noble era of revolutionary spirits. On the other hand, compared with ignorant and numb rural citizens, they bravely faced their lives and pursued practical benefits, which represented Individual consciousness and vitality. Those so called "sons of small town", with their vivid and complicated characteristics, colored the history of modern literature.
