In this paper, the theoretical literature of animal images was undertaken, to understand the ancient development of the animal images and the symbolic connotations of evolution in the development process. Foreign painters animal image as well as for the Chinese oil painting has some influence from Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Salvador Dali, Chiam Soutine, Picasso and other famous foreign painters painting the image of the animal. Use to analysis animal image on Chinese contemporary oil painting for Zhou Chunya, Qiuguang Ping, Meng Tao, Ye Yongqing. To summarize the use of animal images in the painting and the significance of comparative analysis of domestic and international artist’s oil paintings:the image of the animal’s performance still occupies an important position. Oil paintings, animal image is not only has a special aesthetic value and cultural implication, but also possessed the aesthetic role and social significance. Pertaining to the creation of the animals no longer limited to the true state of the animal, and even the criticism, irony, performance and animal life in a space of the human condition and the spiritual world and the existence of contradictions in contemporary society disputes. The image of the animal through different artistic methods of expression to convey the artist’s unique life expirence is the artist’s carrier. Finally, the artist’s oil paintings of the artist for the animal image of the creative techniques as well as the author spirit symbol of the elephant in the different stages of painting I have symbolic significance. In conclusion, the oil paintings of animals contribute a guiding role.
