With the rapid development of the shipping industry, Chinese seafarers begin to work in international shipping industry, not confined to China. Students of marine engineering and navigation major are the main stream of the international industry, most of whom will be engaged in assignments. Therefore, the purpose of maritime university is to develop international seafarers, who should own a high ability of listening, speaking, reading, writing. However, there is a long way for the seafarers to go to meet the requirements of language ability. Since bilingual teaching can not only enhance their specialist knowledge, but also enhance their English ability. So it is significant and indispensable for maritime university to carry out bilingual teaching in maritime courses.This research aims to study the current situation of bilingual maritime courses in DMU to find the existing problems and provide related solutions and measures.A combination of both qualitative and quantitative approaches is adopted in this thesis, aiming to study the bilingual maritime courses in DMU in the aspects of teachers, classroom teaching, teaching materials through classroom observation, questionnaires and interviews. The research results show the existing problems of bilingual maritime courses in DMU are:(1) lack of qualified bilingual teachers and teaching materials.(2) the bilingual classes are not organized efficiently. Therefore, a tentative bilingual teaching method for bilingual maritime courses in universities and colleges is proposed for reference against the existing problems, which could bring some implications or suggestions in the field of the bilingual maritime teaching.
