| TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) teachers’ practical knowledge mainly includes eight key factors:knowledge of subject matter, knowledge of Chinese learning and teaching, knowledge of course design and preparation, knowledge of class organization and management, knowledge of curriculum, knowledge of students, knowledge of teachers themselves as well as knowledge of teaching environment. To formulate and gain enough practical knowledge plays a facilitating role in TCSOL teachers’ professional development.Based on literature review, the knowledge frameworks of both language teachers and TCSOL teachers are reconstructed one after another. This paper then explains the process of gaining and developing TCSOL teachers’ practical knowledge by two case studies on the basis of the formation mechanism:one is about a narrative inquiry of a student teacher and the other one is an analysis of a section of an interview with a senior TCSOL teacher.
