The intangible cultural heritage is the national spiritual and cultural identity. Itcontains a national unique way of thinking, imagination and awareness, carrying thecode of a country and nation cultural life. Daur nationality, as one of the many ethnicgroups of China, is extensively distributed in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regionand Heilongjiang Province, with minorities living in Tacheng City in XinjiangProvince. There people have created an extremely rich intangible cultural heritage. It isvery important to safeguard the intangible cultural heritage in a scientific way, becauseit relates to the safety and the inheritance of national culture.This paper researches on protection and developing intangible cultural heritage bytaking hockey of Daur nationality for an example. On the base of fieldwork anddocuments, using the theoretical knowledge of sociology, ethnology, a systemic studyhas been made on the intangible cultural heritage of Daur nationality, cultural value ofhockey and approach for safeguarding and developing intangible cultural heritage. Itmainly includes the following five parts:The first part is an overview introduction of Daur nationality intangible culturalheritage, including Daur nationality historical culture, the current situation of intangiblecultural heritage, local people’s knowledge and attitude towards their own nationalintangible cultural heritage and a detailed analysis of the characteristics of Daurnationality intangible cultural heritage.The second part is about the history and the status of Daur nationality hockey. Itmainly makes summary and analysis of hockey, the representative intangible culturalheritage, containing hockey cultural value, its current situation and problems, and ananalysis of some negative factors in its spread and development.The third part is the discussion on the local government, Morin Dawa DaurAutonomous Government, practice for Daur nationality intangible cultural heritageprotection and development, like its policies, measures, pattern, experience and specificpractice, as well as a simple generalization on the hockey culture development in thearea. The fourth part is about the confusion for protection and development of hockeyculture; it mainly summarizes and refines the difficulties in the development process,such as heritage, capital protection, infrastructure, legislation, soil and the environmentprotection that provides the basis for making strategies.The fifth part concerns the strategies of hockey culture protection anddevelopment. To solve the problems and make measures, this part makes a thoroughanalysis from several aspects: government-leading, legislation to protect, the masses toparticipate, academic participation and protection or creation of the cultural ecology,combined with the local characteristics and the projects’ characteristics.A comprehensive understanding of history and current situation of Daurnationality intangible cultural heritage is reached after summary, analysis anddiscussion in this paper, especially in hockey culture development, protection anddevelopment, and makes specific measures to develop hockey culture.It should becareful to develop Daur nationality intangible cultural heritage,in the case thatprotection and inheritance mechanism has not been established or is not fullydeveloped; the projects, may contributing to the conservation and heritage, needsscientific planning, in order to achieve the best complementary results of intangiblecultural heritage protection and development.
