Language learning motivation is complicating and important forresearchers. In this article we take a look at motivations of53advanced Chinese learners who are from25countries. By doingface-to-face or phone call interviews, transcribing the interviews intoscript and analyzing the motivational variables, we found that thereare interrelationships among these variables.The variables we adopted in the research are Integrativeness,Instumentality, Vitality of the L2Community, Attitudes toward the L2Speakers/Community, Cultural Interest, Linguistic Self-confidence,Milieu and Goal Setting.The results of the research include that among all the variables,Linguistic Self-confidence is the least notable factor. ButIntegrativeness, Instumentality, Vitality of the L2Community,Attitudes toward the Chinese and Cultural Interest are veryoutstanding among the eight. As to the internal structure of Chineselearning motivation, Milieu plays a very important role in the waythat it interacts with Self-confidence and influences Attitudes towardthe Chinese and Instrumentality as well. |
