| Ayn Rand is a author, philosopher and thinker of America. The Objectivism she created have aprofound influence in North America. Her writing career began with play, reached its climaxwith novels, ended with the Objectivism creation. The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, the twomost representative works, wrapped around individualism versus collectivism, egoism versusaltruism, and reason versus mysticism, Took objectivism as a creation framework, shaped aseries of philosophy images. From narrative perspective, This thesis try to discuss thephilosophy narration in Rand’s novels, explore why those novels are so popular, even it hasstrong philosophy and insufficient literariness.This thesis has four parts: first, introduce Ayn Rand’s life and works and its research at homeand abroad. Second, provides a knowledgeable background for the later analysis, through theintroduction of the Objectivism, which includes objective reality, individualism, reason andcapitalism. Third, analysis the speculative of narrative language, include rhythm, conceptualizeand abstractness and so on. Fourth, analysis symbolic characters, because of the characterswhose existence is to tease out the relationship between philosophies, then functional mode ofbinary opposition, correspondence of idea and flat character appears; Fifth, authoritative positionof narrator, in order to explain her philosophy through control the discourse power, the narratorestablished a reliable image through omniscient perspective and the modes of speechpresentation such as direct quotation and free indirect quotation. Finally, the conclusion, I thinkwe need more tolerance to the insufficient of literariness in Rand’s novels, and focus moreattention on the thoughts and connotations in the works. |
