| Feminist translation theory is arising with the development of the feminist movement. It isthe combination of feminism and translation. And it came into being in the background of the“cultural turn†of translation. Feminist translation theory has firstly introduced to China since the1990s. It has enormous influence on the theory and practice of traditional translation. At thesame time of introducing this Western feminist translation theory, the Chinese translationindustry had many beautiful collision sparks with this new translation theory, due to thedifferences between Chinese and Western cultural traditions, ideologies and value orientations.This article will make a statement on the development and influence of feminist translationtheory at the turn of the century in China from the following four aspects: firstly, it willintroduce the origin and the background of the development of feminist translation theory, andexplain the inevitability of this theory combined with the "cultural turn" of translation. Secondly,discussing the acceptance and development of feminist translation theory in China with themethod of literature review and dividing it into four stages; thirdly, it analyzes the views oflanguage from the perspective of feminist translation theory: the "re-gendered†of language,highlighting the subjectivity of translator and the elimination of the gender discrimination intranslation; fourthly, analyzing the differences between the feminist translation theory andtraditional Chinese translation theory, and predicting the prospects of the development offeminist translation theory in China. Feminist translation theory provides a broader perspectivefor translation studies. It has more subjective and objective study on the process of translationactivities. And it has opened up new directions for translation studies. It is a dynamic and freshtributary flowing into the ocean of translation. |
