There are Five Chief Mountains in China which are equate with Five Sacred Mountains asfamous mountain and they are the production of ancient people’s worship for mountain and river.The formation of the Five Chief Mountains structure has experienced a historical developmentprocess which is from being Multi-Chief Mountains to Four Chief Mountains to Five ChiefMountains. The Five Chief Mountains are including Yishan Mountain, the Eastern ChiefMountain in Linqu Shandong, Kuaijishan Mountain, the Southern Chief Mountain in ShaoxingZhejiang, Wushan Mountain, the Western Chief Mountain in Baoji Shaanxi, YiwulvshanMountain, the Northern Chief Mountain in Beizhen Liaoning, Huoshan Mountain, the CentralChief Mountain in Huozhou Shanxi. The profound political implications of Chief Mountainmake itself link with state power closely. The status of Chief Mountain has been improvedcontinuously along with the development of the Great Unification of feudal state, which givesrise to the formation of Five Chief Mountains sacrifice structure. The Five Chief Mountainsunder the feudal state system is no longer simple mountains worship; it has been endowed withthe core of feudal state’s ritual system and the Five Chief Mountains under national sacrificesystem has been transformed into national chief mountains sacrifice pattern.Chief mountain sacrifice as part of the ancient national ritual system ranks the middle ofsacrifice. National sacrifice is undoubtedly the dominant part of spiritual core of the chiefmountain sacrifice, but not all. The new influence factors continue to join in during thedevelopment of the chief mountain sacrifice pattern such as the Daoism and folklore religion,which are the indispensable factors. The joining of Daoism and folklore religion adds new colorto the chief mountain sacrifice and greatly enriches the spiritual core of the Five Chief Mountainsacrifice pattern.This paper aims at further analyzing the national sacrifice, Daoism sacrifice and folklorereligion existed in the spiritual connotation of chief mountain sacrifice and trying hard to restorethe integrated ancient national chief mountain sacrifice and make an overall and profoundpolitical footnote to ancient national chief mountain through arranging the formation process ofthe Five Chief Mountains sacrifice pattern and interpreting its political implication.
