A Study On The Correlative Markedness Patterns Of Complex Sentences In Xiangxiang Dialect

This thesis takes the correlative markedness in complex sentences of Xiangxiang dialect as the object of study.At the bade of abundant first-hand materials through designing questionnaires and investigating dialect widely,and with the help of theories and methods such as language typology theory,relator principle,etc,it detailes description to the correlative markedness patterns of complex sentences in Xiangxiang dialect by using relevant study results by experts at home and abroad for reference.The paper also investigates the priority sequence of the correlative markedness patterns of complex sentences,and analyzes the distributional positions of the conjunctions in complex sentences of Xiangxiang dialect thoroughly.It explores the influence of the relator principle for the conjunctions in complex sentences of Xiangxiang dialect,too.The contents of this thesis includs the following:The preface introduces Xiangxiang geographical and humanitical environment, the historical survey,summarizing Xiangxiang dialect.Xiangxiang dialect belongs to Xiangshuang cluster of Loushao sub-grouping of Xiang group.It also analyzes relevant study results by experts at home and abroad,and explains relevant conceptions,main research theories and the origin of corpus.The first chapter defines the scope of the correlative markedness in complex sentences and the style of the correlative markedness patterns.The correlative markedness in complex sentences of this paper conclude conjunctions,prepositions and phrases.The correlative markedness patterns can be classified into three types:the Middle-bonding, the Periphery-dependence and Supporting-around.The Chapter two talks about the correlative markedness patterns of varied complex sentences,and explores the characteristics of these patterns of varied complex sentences in Xiangxiang dialect.The classification of the correlative markedness patterns can also be applied to Xiangxiang dialect. But the situation is different when specific to each type of complex sentences. The compound sentence,the connective sentence, the progressive sentence and the selective sentence of Xiangxiang dialect include two types:the Middle-bonding and Supporting-around.The adversative sentence of Xiangxiang dialect has only one type:the Middle-bonding.The conditional sentence,the hypothesis sentence,the concessive sentence and the causal sentence include the three types above.The correlative markedness in complex sentences of Xiangxiang dialect give priority to preposed.The third chapter investigates the priority sequences of the correlative markedness patterns of varied complex sentences in Xiangxiang dialect,which based on the three patterns can be ranked according to their frequency.By comparing these sequences,the paper obtains a hierarchy as the Middle-bonding> Supporting-around> the Periphery-dependence.The Chapter four analyzes the distributional positions of the conjunctions in complex sentences of Xiangxiang dialect.They are effected by two factors:the subjects of the two clauses and the order of the two clauses. Whether the subjects of the two clauses are coreferential affects the conjunction position which preceeding to the first clause,and the conjunction position which appears in both clauses repeatly.But whether the subjects of the two clauses are coreferential that won’t affect the conjunction position which preceeding to the latter clause.The latter clause prefers to see the conjunction preceedind the subject.Under the influence of the relator principle,whether the two clauses who appear first or not,the conjunction that appears in the latter clause always preceeds to the subject.By comparing the conjunctions in terms of the positons and pauses,the fifth chapter obtains varied sequences about the tendencies for the middle position of complex sentences in Xiangxiang dialect.Through the sequences,we can talk about some differences of these conjunctions which the meaning and usage is pretty much the same.At the same time,the priority positions of the conjunctions about four kinds of complex sentences need to perfect appreciably.The last chapter summarizes the main contents and conclusions of the thesis.Based on the detailed description of the correlative markedness patterns,the complex sentences of Xiangxiang dialect can be characterized as complete patterns and preposed markedness,and show marked tendencies for the middle position.Furthermore, the Middle-bonding and Supporting-around are the main pattern.
