Linum usitatissimum L. belongs to the family of Linaceae and is also called as "Da Hu Ma" or "Hu Ma Ren" in Chinese. The seed of Linum usitatissimum L. has been recorded in Chinese pharmacopoeia. It possesses the character of neutrality in nature and sweet flavor, and has effects of moistening and dispelling wind. In clinical practice, it is always used to treat the pruritus, leprosy, vertigo, constipation and so on.Eight compounds were isolated from the seed of Linum usitatissimum L. by means of repeated column chromatography such as silica gel, alumina column, sephadex LH-20, recrystallized and so on. On the basis of physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic analysis, six compounds were identified as:adenosine (1),4-β-D-Glucopyranosylcoumaric acid ethyl ester (2), ecoisolariciresinol diglucoside (3), herbacetin 3,8-O-diglucoside (4), trans-sinapic acid (5) and daucosterol (6). Among them, two compounds (comp.1 and 2) were isolated from this genus for the first time.A review on Linum. was summarized based on the related references and our research works. Myrica rubra(Lour.)Sieb.et Zucc. is widely distributed in the southeast of China and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, which is well-known characteristics of fruit trees and had a long history in China. The bark of Myrica rubra(Lour.)Sieb.et Zucc. is used as a folk medicine for the treatment of diuretic, dysentery, cardiotonic, stomachic agents, flooding wind agent, chest medicine and so on.Eighteen compounds were isolated from the bark of Myrica rubra(Lour.)Sieb.et Zucc. by means of repeated column chromatography on silica gel, open ODS, sephadex LH-20, recrystallized and so on. On the basis of physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic analysis, sixteen compounds were identified as:ampelopsin (1), salicylic acid (2), gallic acid (3), myricetin (4), myricitrin (5), (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (6),β-sitosterol (7), daucosterol (8), myricaborin A (9), myricanol (10), myricanol-5-O-β-D-(6’-O-galloyl)-glucopyanoside (11), taraxerol (12), ursolic acid (13), syringic acid (14), n-butyl-β-D-fructopyranoside (15) and n-butyl-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (16). Among them, compounds 9 and 16 were two novel compounds and compounds 1,2,14 and 15 were obtained from this genus for the first time. The spectral characteristics of cyclic diarylheptanoids were reviewed based on our research works and related references.A review on Myrica was summarized based on the related references and our research works.
