Objective---Comparison of analgesic efficacy after general anesthesia combinewith ultrasound guided lumbar plexus and caudal block for pediatrichip surgery.Background---Lower extremity peripheral nerve blocks are increasingly popular inchildren. The use of ultrasound guidance likely explain this change. Our purpose of this study was to compare clinical evaluationespecially about analgesic effects between ultrasound guided lumbarplexus block and caudal block for pediatric hip surgery.Methods----Forty ASAâ… -â…¡children aged3to6years scheduled for hipsurgery were randomly assigned to2groups: caudal block(group C,n=20)or ultrasound guided lumbar plexus block (group L, n=20).Both blocks were placed under general anesthesia.0.2%ropivacaine1ml/Kg was used in both blocks. Practice time andsuccess rate, dose of intraoperative fentanyl, occurrence of hypotension and bradycardia were measured during the operation. After the operation, we recorded the time to first PCA, total dose ofPCA, CHEOPS scores, quality of recovery, satisfaction of parents, the occurrence of POVA and urine retension.Results-----Duration of fixing position by ultrasound was longer in group Cthan group L.(P<0.001) Time to first PCA was earlier and total doseof PCA were higher in group C than group L.(P<0.001)Conclusion---Ultrasound guided lumbar plexus block provides safe and betterpostoperative analgesic effects compared with caudal block...
