Objective:This study aims to investigate the effects of preoperative interview by cardiac intensive care nurse on patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. Methods:One hundred patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting were recruited from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, and randomly divided into two groups:Control group (n=50) and experimental group (n=50). Patients of Control group were given normal preoperative interview on the day before sugary. Differently, patients of Experimental group were given preoperative interview by cardiac intensive care nurse, besides normal preoperative interview. Patients’ information including age, gender, education level and severity of coronary heart disease were collected by reading their records. On the day before surgery and the day when patients were transferred out of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) were allocated to the patients, and the scores of SAS and SDS for each patient were calculated. Compliance behaviors of patients such as dysphoria, vomiting-associated extubation, self-extubation, and sedation were recorded during the ICU stay. When patients were transferred out of ICU, the ICU nursing satisfaction ratio was evaluated by nursing satisfaction questionnaire. Results:There was no significant differences in age, gender, education level and severity of coronary heart disease between Control group and Experimental group (P>0.05). There was no significant differences in both preoperative SAS and SDS scores between Control group and Experimental group (P>0.05). There was a significant decrease in both post-operative SAS and SDS scores of Experimental group, compared with Control group (P<0.05).There was a slight increase in post-operative SAS and SDS scores of Control group, compared with corresponding preoperative SAS and SDS scores (P>0.05). There was a significant decrease in post-operative SAS and SDS scores of Experimental group, compared with corresponding preoperative SAS and SDS scores (P>0.05). The number of patients with dysphoria, vomiting-associated extubation, self-extubation, or sedation in Experimental group is3,4,2,6, respectively, which is significantly lower than that in Control group (18,14,10,19, respectively)(P<0.05). The ICU nursing satisfaction ratio in Experimental group is96%, which is significantly higher than that in Control group (78%, P<0.05).Conclusion:The preoperative interview by cardiac intensive care nurse could alleviate the post-operative anxiety and depression in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, which is accompanied by an increase of compliance behavior and ICU nursing satisfaction ratio.
