Using four public microRNA microarray datasets, we evaluated five heterogeneityconsidered outlier detection algorithms (i.e., LSOSS, COPA, MOST, ORT and OS) andt-test, and found that more appropiate methods should be used to detect oncomicroRNAsof which expression altered only in a subset of samples. Integrating these six methods, weconstructed a GUI based Java program for users to easily apply these algorithms to realstudies. By comparing the consistency between datasets on different levels, we drew aconclusion that common pattern of datasets could be found on systematic or functionallevels. After analyzing those four datasets, we identified38GeneOntology terms,16KEGG pathways and99GeneGo pathways. Among the top15GeneGo pathways, four hadbeen reported previously, and the rest were confirmed by the results of an analysis of thecomponent genes in the pathways.Meanwhile, we collected prostate cancer associated pathways recently published andclassified them with cancer hallmarks. We are determined to construct a detailed pathwaydatabase specifically to prostate cancer.
