Backgroud:Many clinical findings show that there exist correlationsbetween personality character and certain diseases. It is commonlyaccepted that type A character is connected with coronary heartdisease. However many reseachers find there are certain connectionsbetween character and liver disease.Based on prevous studies, this studyaims to investigate how character correlates to liver disease.Aim:To observe and discuss relations between type A character and liverdisease, illness degree, and treatment effect. Methods: Make a quetionnaire survey of all subjects with Type Apersonality scale.Ask the subjects to complete the questionnaire as soonas possible. The total score of the questionnaire is50points.If one gets ascore of not less than36points,he is identified with type A character.Onewho gets a score of less than36points is identied with non-type Acharacter.According to the diagnostic standards of liver diseases such ashepatitis B and cirrhosis etc.,189patients with liver disease who werehospitalized in medical department of digestion of the first hospital ofJilin University from2012.4to2012.12were collected.Meanwhile50healthy persons were collected.Among them28had the habbit oflong-term alcohol drinking.Averagely they had200grams liquor perday,spectively.23hepatitis B carriers with no hepatitis symptoms werecollected, too. Then the character patterns of all subjects were identified according to the questionnaire.1) To analyse the relations betweencharacter and liver disease, compare the ratios of type A character patternin healthy persons and the whole patients with liver disease, compare theratios of type A character pattern in healthy persons with the habbit oflong-term drinking and patients with alcoholic liver disease, and comparethe ratios of type A character pattern in hepatitis B carriers and patientswith chronic hepatitis B.2)To determine the relations between characterand illness degree of patients with liver disease, compare the ratios of typeA character pattern and the total score of the questionnaire incompensated cirrhotic patients with that in discompensated cirrhoticpatients, and compare the ratios of type A character pattern and the totalscore of the questionnaire in compensated cirrhotic patients withthat indiscompensated cirrhotic patients with complication of hemorrhage ofdigestive tract.3)To determine the relations between type A character andtreatment effect and prognosis of patients with liver disease, compare therestoration of Alanine Aminotransferase of severe chronic hepatitis Bpatients who are type A character pattern and those who are non-type Acharacter pattern, and compare the increased value of albumin8daysafter hospitalization and the hospitalization period in the ascites patientswho are type A character pattern with those who are non-type A characterpattern. Results: 1.The group of Patients with liver disease has a higher ratio of type Acharacter pattern than the group of healthy persons, The group of Patientswith alcoholic liver disease has a higher ratio of type A character patternthan the group of healthy persons who have the habbit of long-termdrinking, The group of Patients who have the disease of chronic hepatitisB has a higher ratio of type A character pattern than the group of hepatitisB carriers. The difference of each pair shows statistical significance.2. The group of compensated cirrhotic Patients has a higher ratio oftype A character pattern and higher total score of the questionnaire thanthe group of discompensated cirrhotic Patients。 The group ofcompensated cirrhotic Patients has a higher ratio of type A character andhigher total score of the questionnaire than the group of discompensatedcirrhotic patients with complication of hemorrhage of digestive tract.Thedifference of each pair shows statistical significance.3.The group of hepatitis B patients with type A character has a lowerdecreased value l of Alanine aminotransferase than the group withnon-type A character5days after hospitalization. The group ofdiscompensated cirrhotic patients who have ascites with type A characterpattern has a lower increased value in albumin8days after hospitalizationand a longer hospitalization period than the group with non-type Acharacter. The difference of each pair shows statistical significance. Conclusion: 1.There exist certain correlations between type A character and liverdisease,2.Type A character is connected with illness degree of liver disease. It maycorrelate to the worsen condition of the patients.3.Type A character may correlate to the bad treatment effect andprognosis of liver disease.
