Understanding of three-dimensional spinal motion is important to assess spineinjury and surgery in clinic. Simulating spinal motion in vivo is very difficult as themotion is of six-degree of freedom coupled motion in three-dimensional space.Currently, many biomechanics laboratories around the world have developed different3D spinal motion testing machine without a uniform standard and norms. The spinalmotion testing machine is developed to simulating2D or3D motion,, with a manualcontrol or automatic control. In recent years, with the development of the spinesurgery, there is a growing number of spine measurement methods and tools.Regarding the characteristics of the movement of the spine, physiologicalcharacteristics and different research purposes, it is very important to select theappropriate the scientific testing machine3D spine motion. This article aims todevelop a control system for a custom designed spine machine in the Spine and SpinalCord Injury Research Laboratory at the Nanfang Hospital Affiliated to SouthernMedical University based on existing spinal testing machin control hardware anddetection devices using LabVIEW software. The control system made the machinegenerating motion in flexion, extension, lateral bending,and axial rotation withoutconstraint to3D spinal motion., to achieve accurate and convenient spinal motion test.This article describes the working principle and application range of thethree-dimensional motion of the spine testing machine device; design3D spinemotion testing machine based the Altai sampling card, the torque sensor and Sichuanservo motor,3D spine motion device developed based on LabVIEW developmentplatform control systems; solve the three-dimensional movement of the testingmachine torque control and rate control, and safety control system is set to makethree-dimensional movement of the test machine to more security and science.The experiments show that the sampling rate is fast, accurate torque control, easyto use, the interface is simple knot3D spine motion testing machine control systembased on LabVIEW, accurate calculation.
