Comparative Study Of Diverticular Disease Of The Colon Between Seychelles And China

ObjectiveTo study the difference of the diverticulum of the colon between the Seychelles and China in the age、position、clinical symptom、sex、weight、 the number and size of diverticulum.Materials and methods69diverticular disease of the colon patients were confirmed from571barium enema patients from August of2010to July of2012, and we summarized the characteristics and imaging findings of the DDC in Seychelles.19diverticular disease of the colon patients were confirmed from2471barium enema patients from August of2009to July of2012by retrospectively analyzed in the X-ray department of Shandong Provincial Medical Imaging Research Institute. And we summarized the characteristics and imaging findings of the diverticular disease of the colon in China.We compared the characteristics of the diverticular disease of the colon in Seychelles and China, especially from the position、the number of the diverticulum、the age, and got the statistical analysis to let the clinical doctors to pay more attention to this disease. Throw away a brick in order to get a gem.Results The incidence of diverticular disease of the colon in Seychelles is12.08%, it is obviously higher than0.77%in China.There are18male (26.1%) and51female (73.9%) in69diverticular diseases of the colon patients in Seychelles,15male (78.9%) and4female (21.1%) in19diverticular diseases of the colon patients in China. There is apparently difference in sex in the two countries.The deverticular diseases of patients in two countries are all showed abdominal pain, abdominal distension, constipation, and hematochezia.Most of the patients are over60years old in the two countries,75.6%and78.9%over60years patients in diverticular disease of the colon in Seychelles and China.There are87%overweight or obesity patients in the diverticular diseases of the colon patients in Seychelles.In Seychelles, we can to see more diverticulums in the left side colon, two or two more parts of colons (87%); In China, more diverticulums can be seen in the right side of colons (63%).ConclusionsThere is a higher incidence of diverticular disease of the colon in Seychelles. Compared to China, diverticulum can be more often to see in the female, the left side of colon, multiple parts of colon, and multiple diverticulums in Seychelles. Overweight and obesity is an important reason of the diverticular disease of colon in Seychelles. There is no difference in the age of onset and clinical symptom.
