Objective To investigate the effect of enalapril maleate tablets on renal function in patients undergoing coronary angiography or percutaneous coronary intervention.Methods146consecutive patients undergoing coronary angiography (CAG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were randomly assigned to enalapril group (n=72) and control group (n=74). In the enalapril group, the patients receive enalapril maleate tablets5-10mg twice daily more than2days before and after CAG or PCI. We compared serum creatinine (Scr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), Cystatin C (Cys C) levels, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and serum oxidative stress indicators8-iso-prostaglandin F2a (8-iso-PGF2α), malondialdehyde (MDA), antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels at baseline and48h after CAG or PCI.Results In the control group Scr increased from69.79±16.77to71.80±15.98μmol/L (P<0.05), eGFR decreased from112.19±33.08to106.64±24.65mL/min (P<0.01), and serum Cys C increased from0.57±0.11to0.62±0.22mg/L (P<0.05),8-iso-PGF2α、MDA were unchanged. In the enalapril group Scr, eGFR and serum Cys C were unchanged, serum8-iso-PGF2α decreased from188.16±104.72to180.02±100.28ng/L (P<0.05), serum MDA decreased from4.45±1.07to4.33±1.00μmol/L (P<0.05).Conclusions These results suggest that enalapril maleate tablets are effective in relieving contrast media induced acute renal function injury, the proposed mechanism is through its known antioxidant properties.
