Research purpose and meaning:Basing ourselves on the Huang Di Nei Jing and its concepts of "wei" therapy, adhesive plasters (gao) and its theory of meridians system that we will combine with external use of aromatherapy, we will discuss the action of essential oils applied on meridians, skin areas and acupuncture points, using the way of think and the syndrome differentiation of Chinese medicine in order to choose the appropriate essential oils applied for external use to maintain health and treat disease.The purpose of this research paper is to allow to Chinese medicine practitioners when using the reflection mode of Chinese medicine, and after doing the syndrome differentiation in Chinese medicine, to use essential oils externally on acupuncture points, meridians or skin areas, either alone or combined with other therapeutic tools of traditional Chinese medicine such as medicinal herbs, acupuncture and moxibustion and tuina and medical massage to practice a treatment.The meaning of this research lies in the fact that there is currently no model for using essential oils based on the meridians system and the theoretical concepts of Chinese medicine.By combining the efficiency of aromatherapy and essential oils with the way of thinking of traditional Chinese medicine, and by exploring more deeply the methods of external application of medicinal herbs as "wei" therapy and plasters (gao), we hope to obtain better therapeutic results in clinical practice.Methods:1. Consult extensively the discussions about Huang Di Nei Jing and the researches of specialists in order to refine our theoretical model;2. Consult the contemporary documents in chinese language and foreign language concerning aromatherapy;3. Consult reports of researches on "wei" therapy, adhesive plasters (gao), aromatherapy and essential oils;4. Consult Chinese traditional materia medica, Chinese pharmaceutics and the book De Materia Medica written by the Greek physician Dioscorides (40-90AD.) in order to do researches on the characteristics and properties of medicinal herbs in ancient times in Occident.Conclusion:Through the combination of safe, convenient, effective, and natural aspects of essential oils with the characteristic of human body seen as a whole in Chinese medicine and after have analyzed the knowledges about "wei" therapy, adhesive plaster (gao) and the meridians system of the Huang Di Nei Jing, based ourself also on modern researches about Chinese medicine external treatments,"wei" therapy and plasters (gao), and linking this with the efficacy of essential oils, we can assume that the theoretical model of external utilization of aromatherapy and essential oils combined with the meridians system has great potential in clinical practice.
