Objective: Pterion approach is one of the most commonly used ways inneurosurgery, and being applied more widely nowadays,so it is ofurgency to study the types and microdissection anatomy of the lateralsegment of the lateral fissure vein in the brain.Method: Take90patients hospitalized in China-Japan union hospitalduring January2012to December2012who suffered from arterialaneurysm and had the pterion approach operation,50of them the diseasewere on the left side while40were on the right side.42male,48female.Age from28to75years (45.6on average). Observe the shape, number, distribution and classification of the lateral fissure vein in the operations, and measure the related data. Analyze the data with SPSS18.0statisticalsoftware, use t test to evaluate the left and right sides of the data, statistical results are showen with mean±standard deviation [χ±s (Min toMax)].Results: By observing and analyzing the lateral fissure area of90casesof cerebral hemisphere we get the conclusions:1. These types are mainlyshown of the lateral segment of the lateral fissure vein in the brain: singlestem(30cases,33.33%), double stems (33cases,36.67%), three stems(18cases,20.00%), no stem(8cases,8.89%). In addition, we also found one case of rare variants of the lateral fissure vein,1(1%).2. NOapparent morphological and gender differences are noticed of the lateralsegment of the lateral fissure vein between left and right brain hemisphere,P values>0.05, no statistical significance.3. The diameter of the lateralsegment of the lateral fissure vein on the left side are1.64±0.62mm(0.42mm~3.54mm),on the right side are1.70mm±0.52mm (0.44~3.26mm), no statistical between the left and right sides of the brain.(P>0.05).4.The lateral fissure vein mostly collect the frontal fissure vein(5.82±1.08stems), and followed by the collection of the temporal fissurevein (5.07±0.87stems), and the last for the collection of the parietalfissure vein (3.84±0.40stems). Comparison between three groups hasstatistical significance (P <0.05).conclusion:1. Morphological differences are often shown betweenlateral segment of the lateral fissure veins, single and double stems are themost common types.2. The lateral fissure vein is the major superficialvein of lateral fissure area, but not all of them are well developed andregular.3. The lateral fissure vein and its stems are often of variation, preoperative evaluation should be made, design proper surgical approachaccording to its different shapes, avoid injurign the lateral fissure veinand its stems and accelerate the process of the operation.
