Objection: To observe and evaluate the early clinical effect of the artificial cervical discreplacement in the treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy, discuss theoperation indications and contraindications and the existing problems of thecurrent progress.Method: From2010.1to2011.11,17cases of artificial cervical disc replacement(20levels) in the treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy were observed, ofwhich13were male,4female, age range from39to56years old, average age is42.9years old. Single level disc replacement in14cases, double levelsreplacement in3cases. All of the patients should be examinated by X-ray ofcervical vertebral, X-ray of bending, extending position and MRI. To evaluatethe early clinical effect based on JOA score, NDI score and Odom’s scalesbefore operation and after operation.Result: Preoperative NDI with23.4土5.87,reduced to18.5土3.89when patientsdischarged from the hospital, and reduced to16.5土3.67three months afteroperation. This group of17patients with preoperative JOA scores of7.9土2.08,increased to12.1土1.84when patients discharged from the hospital, andincreased to13.3土1.57three months after operation. The postoperative clinicalsymptoms and signs compared with the preoperative has obviously improved, according to the Odom’s scales,12cases is excellent,4of them is good, onlyone case is general, the success rate is94.1%. After3months follow-up, theclinical symptoms and signs were obviously improved, no improvements did notappear. No prosthesis appeared loosening, shifting or shedding, the operativelevels showed good rotation. Conclusion: The decompression effect of the artificial cervical disc replacement is more thorough, and the patients showed good satisfaction. And it had no influence on the rotation of the operative segments, also it s conducive to maintaining the stability of entire cervical sequence, so this operation is the effective treatment of the cervical spondylotic myelopathy.
