Objectives:adenosine,as an important endogenous neurotransmitter, can decrease the excitotoxicity and play a neuromodulatory role of anticonvulsant effect and neuroprotection. Adenosine Al receptor and A2a receptor have high affinity in the brain tissue. Studying the difference between the density of adenosine Al receptor and A2a receptor, the differences of two groups’adenosine receptors, about post traumatic epilepsy and epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis,in order to discuss whether adenosine affects the process of the epilepsy or not, analyse to relative factors of adenosine receptors. Methods:I collected14patients suffered with epilepsy,7of them were hippocampal sclerosis, others were brain injury. Before operation, they all had V-EEG and MRI examination. After operation, seeing the localization and amount of adenosine Al receptor and A2a receptor by immunohistochemical means. Comparing with the different density of adenosine Al receptor and A2a receptor. Statistical analyse to the relationship of relative factors and adenosine receptors.. Results:The result of immunohistochemistry suggests in two groups, hippocampus and cortex both have the expression of adenosine receptors.Among many factors, course of disease has relationship with adenosine receptors’expression, while age, sex, seizure frequency, seizure sort and drug have no relationship with adenosine expression. Conclusions:Expression of adenosine receptors can be seen in cortex and hippocampus.Density of adenosine receptors can change according to course of disease.Adenosine is important to epilepsy.
