Objective: To investigate the effects and safety of escitaloparm vs paroxetine in thetreatment of depression.Methods: One hundred and five patients of depression and generalized anxiety disorderwere divided into2groups:ecitaloparm (n=52) and paroxetine (n=53) group.Eachgroup was treated6weeks.The curative effects were assessed with the HamiltonDepression Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA).Results: At the end of the1st week,the HAMD score of escitalopram group is20.35,theHAMAscore is16.05.The HAMD score of paroxetine group is27.31,the HAMAscore is19.55.The score of escitalopram group is obvious lower than paroxetine group(P<0.05).Atthe end of the6th week,the HAMD score of escitalopram group is8.26,the HAMA scoreis6.90.The HAMD score of paroxetine group is9.64,the HAMA score is7.92.The scoreof each group is obvious lower than before(P<0.05).Conclusion: Escitalopram is safe and effective for the treatment of depression vsgeneralized anxiety disorder.Compareing with paroxetine, escitalopram possesses morequickly response and less adverse reactions.
