Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the children’s behavior,attitude and vision when need to use some of orthodontic appliances orthe face masks.Materials and Methods:69consecutive patients from the stomatological centre in Tongji Hospitalwere studied prospectively between Feb. and Nov.2011.40boys and29girls were included. The mean age was9.4years old (range from6-14years).35patients were treated with face mask and the remaining34weretreated with removable appliance. Patients were selected randomly. Onlycases with no history of orthodontic treatment and in good oral hygienewere included. Analysis was assessed using chi-square test, Fischer’sexact test. Unpaired t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) served forstatistical analysis.Results:Patients whose age ranges from6-10were less cooperative and responsivein orthodontic treatment than those whose age ranges from11-14. Theyounger group behaved more anxious, irritable and asocial compared tothe elder age group.Conclusions:Awareness of the importance and necessity of orthodontic treatment withthe removable appliances usually increase children’s interest in treatmentand acceptance to orthodontic appliance.
