Objective To investigate the numbers of Foxp3~+Treg cells in the malignant breasttumors and its significances.Materials and Methods1Materials Ninety eight paraffin-embedded tissue specimens: breastcarcinoma tissue60cases;breast benign tissue30cases;normal breast tissue8cases.These were obtained from the Department Of Pathology and the Department OfSurgery Of TongJi. Hospital.2Methods We used FoxP3(e-Bioscience,USA) antibody clone236A/E7toimmnunohistochemically stain all tissue specimens and counted the numbers ofFoxP3~+cells in every tissue specimens.The statistic software of SPSS13.0was usedfor data statistical analysis.Results Foxp3~+regulatory T cells was not found in normal breast tissuespecimens.Comparing with maligant and benign breast tumor tissue, an increaseexpression of Foxp3~+regulatory T cells was found in breast carcinoma tissue specimens(P<0.05).The number of Foxp3~+Treg cells in breast carcinoma tissue waspositively associated with WHO grade,tumor size,lymph node involvement andclinical stage(P<0.05).While its had no correlation with Her2/neu(±),ER(±) andPR(±)(P>0.05).52breast cancer patients (86.7%) were followed up with a medianperiod of12.5months(range6-24months). The patients which were in Foxp3~+Tregcell-positive breast cancer case showed much higher recurrence rate as compared tothe patients which were in Foxp3~+Treg cell-negative breast cancer case(32.1%vs8.3%, P<0.05, Fisher Exact Test).Conclusion There are many Foxp3~+Treg cells in breast carcinoma tissue.It may actan important role in the progression of breast carcinoma and maybe used as atherapeutic target for breast carcinoma.
