Objective:Using the self-expansion of a hydrogel, we implanted hydrogel in rabbits eyes and groin with small-incision researching the difference of the expansion rate of the hydrogel in vivo and in vitro theoretical value, observing its biocompatibility, and learning its CT-characteristics to supplying the new high-performance orbital filling material for the field of ophthalmology.Method:Selection of36adult rabbits, randomly selected]8of the left (the eyes and groin), right(the eyes and groin)marked as A, B, and18left (the eyes and groin), right (the eyes and groin)marked as C, D groups, each group rabbits random numbers, each of18specimens. We implanted the self-expansion hydrogel of a. b and c into the orbit of A, B. C and implanted the self-expansion hydrogel A, B and C into the groin of group A, B, C. Group D was injected saline as blank control. Respectively, after3days,1week,2weeks,4weeks,8weeks,16weeks, each group of three rabbits were killed in the ear vein air embolization. we removed the each hydrogel measurements to calculate the body swelling, some rabbit did CT scan. and were taked around the implant tissues doing histological examination.Result:1. There was an early local postoperative inflammatory response of conjunctival hyperemia and corneal edema, But all eyes there was no naked of the foreign body granuloma, implants discharge, suppurative complications of infection.2. At the first3days,1week,2weeks,4weeks in orbital, we reached the swelling degree was significantly lower than their respective theoretical values (P<0.05). A group of body swelling with the theoretical value of8weeks compared, there was no significant (P>0.05). Group B. group C of the body to reach the swelling degree compared with their respective theoretical values, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05), but in group B was lower than the theoretical value, while group C was higher than the theoretical value. At16weeks in group A, group B was no significant difference (P>0.05). while group C higher than the equilibrium swelling in vitro normal saline (P<0.05) compared to their respective theoretical values. Groin3days,1week,2weeks,4weeks,8weeks.16weeks each time point the body to reach the swelling degree compared with their respective theoretical values, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05), for each time point, the body swelling were lower than the theoretical value. By any two of the three materials in different time segments, body swelling body swelling degree compared with16weeks difference was statistically significant at8weeks. Body swelling degree for each time point were lower than the theoretical value. By any two of the three materials in their respective time segment. the body swelling at8weeks and16weeks compared to body swelling was no significant difference (P>0.05) in8weeks and16weeks group, group B, group C three kinds of materials swelling percentage were significantly<100%, about90%. Orbital groin materials compared to the initial volume of the hydrogel also affects the swelling in the body, a small percentage of the large volume of the swelling.8weeks16weeks during a stable platform for graphics, the statistical analysis no significant difference (P>0.05). Groin in group A (low swelling materials) in the four weeks after the plateau, no statistically significant difference in swelling ratio at4weeks and16weeks (P>0.05).3. We achieved the characteristic of small incision implantation, fewer of complications, no inflammatory reaction and foreign body granuloma by histology, it had good biocompatibility.4. By self-swelling hydrogel body reached the swelling equilibrium, the CT value of-18to+30Hu, significantly higher than that of fat density.Conclusion:Autologous expansion of the hydrogel body through penetration of the role of self-expansion, the emergence of platform stability of self-expansion of the hydrogel can be used in the treatment of orbital inadequate security guarantees:the initial volume of the hydrogel also affects the in vivo swelling; autologous expansion characteristics of the hydrogel dry state implanted to achieve a small incision implantation, postoperative injury, and fewer complications; by histology observed around the implant no obvious reaction and foreign body granuloma. with the biological compatibility; After reached the swelling equilibrium. CT Hu were higher than that of fat density. It can be used as a detection method for future research.
