Objective To assess the value of endoscopic retrograd cholangio-pancreatography(ERCP) for pancreatibiliary diseases in children younger than10years old. Methods The children data of ten children(≤10years old) treated wihERCP from2003to2011were analyzed retrospectively, and the succuss rate,procedures-related complications and prognosis were evaluated. Andsummarize the value of ERCP for pancreatibiliary diseases in children. Results Ten children including three boys and seven girls(age2to10years, mean age5.2years) were underwent a toal of10ERCPs underanesthesia. ERCP was successful in9of10cases(90%), including6therapeutic and3diagnostic procedure. Indications of patiens for ERCP werebiliary pathology in3, pancreatic pathology in2and both of them in4. Biliaryindication included choledocholithiasis in3, biliary stenosis in2andcholedochal cyst in1. Pancreatic indications included acute pancreatitis in5and chronic pancreatitis in1. The therapeutic procedure included endoscopicnasal drainage, endoscopic sphincterotomy, stone extration and balloon dilatation. The complication rate was33.3%(3/9), and included1post-ERCPpancreatitis, and2hyperamylasemia. Each chidren has abdominal pain beforeprocedure and2cases accompany jaundice. In the following6months to60months after ERCP,70%(7/10)had no abdominal pain and100%(2/2) had nojaundice.Conclusion1.ERCP is an important tool with high safety and efficacy forpancreaticobiliary diseases in children.2.ERCP-related pancreatitis is not uncommon, the risk and benefits should becarefully reviewed before proceduring. It should be observed carefully andtreat timely after proceduring.
