Objective:Digestive system carcinoma is one of the most common cancers in the world. which including esophageal carcinoma, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal cancer. With the improvement of living level, continue to promote modernization construction, the morbidity and mortality are constantly in increasing. Our country approximately57%malignant tumor is digestive system carcinoma. At present the the preferred treatment of digestive system carcinoma is radical resection, with postoperation chemo and/or radiotherapy and Chinese medicine, so as to reduce tumor relapse and metastasis and improve the efficacy of treatment. As one major means of digestive system carcinoma treatment radical resection could effectively cure the disease. Many patients present postoperative metastasis. During killing tumor cell’s, chemotherapy also has certain injury regarding the normal cell. The main toxic side effects are bone marrow suppression, clinical manifestations show as leucopenia, nausea, vomiting, alopecia. The traditional Chinese treatment plays an important role in bettering the clinical symptom significantly, improving the immunity and the quality of life of digestive system carcinoma patients which treated with chemo and/or radiotherapy. As one of the funding research projects of Sichuan Science and Technology Agency, this research is aimed to study the effect of Shuangxian formula in treating digestive system carcinoma belongs to kidney-yang deficiency. By observing the syndrome, the immune function and the quality of life etc;supply a basis for evidence-based medicine. Methods:According to the principle of informed,90digestive system carcinoma patients matched with the inclusion criteria were allocated randomly into traditional Chinese medicine group, western medicine group and comfort group. All patients were administrated at Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital of Sichuan Province from March2008to March2012. All patients have received Chemotherapy with at least one of following medicine:cisplatin, carboplatin, ifosfamide, doxorubicin. The traditional Chinese medicine group were treated with Shuangxian formula granule, take one dose three times a day,100ml for each time. Western medicine group were treated with Thymopetidum Enericcoated Tablets,6mg, bid. Comfort group were treated with a placebo which is similar to Shuangxian formula granule in appearance. All groups take30-day as a course of treatment, all patients were treated for two courses. The three groups accepted the exact same basic treatment. The syndrome, immunity index and the quality of life were observed. Results:There were significances statistically in immune function, syndrome, the quality of life, ect of digestive system carcinoma patients compared traditional Chinese medicine group with western medicine group and comfort group(P<0.05), especially in immunity improvement, even more significant (P<0.01).The adverse reactions before and after the treatment were mainly fever, dizziness and fatigue (P <0.05), which patients in the traditional Chinese medicine group better performed, suggesting that Shuangxian formula may play a potential effect. Conclusion:The Chinese medicine Shuangxian formula can improve the immunity, better the clinical symptom significantly and enhance the quality of life of digestive system carcinoma patients. This study has provided a evidences for adjuvant therapy after chemotherapy.
