Abstract: Objective: Low birth weight (LBW) is defined as a birthweight of a liveborn infant of less than2,500g. regardless of gestationalage. LBW is either the result of preterm birth or of the infant being smallfor gestational age), or a combination of both. The small for gestationalage(SGA) also known as fetal intrauterine growth retardation. Theexperimental application of surface enhanced laser desorption ionizationtime of flight mass technology to study of LBW nutrition status, In orderto provide the reference for the clinical treatment of LBW, to start themore reasonable therapeutic regimen as soon as possible, Improve theprognosis of the patient. Methods: The acquisition of91serum sampleswere divided into4groups,59cases of LBW,37cases of PLBW,22casesof MLBW;32cases of NBW.SELDI-TOF-MS and Gold chip wereapplied to test the Serum protein fingerprinting map, Using BiomarkerWizard software screening differential protein. Searching the proteindatabase (Swiss protein database http://us.expasy.org/tools/tagident.html),getting with M/Z corresponding to the protein. Analysis and research ofLBW nutritional status and protein metabolism characteristics. Results:A contrast was made between the LBW group and the NBW group,150protein peaks were statistically significant (P<0.01),98peaks of which were of high expression and52with low expression. From the analysis ofthe results, there are7protein peaks have the most of the research value, with the M/Z of2114.93Da、2381.05Da、6835.70Da、9444.82Da、4216.15Da、10421.72Da、5358.06Da. A contrast was made between thePLBW group and the NBW group,74protein peaks were statisticallysignificant(P<0.01),64peaks of which were of high expression and10with low expression. From the analysis of the results, there are5proteinpeaks have the most of the research value(have higher peak, less standarddeviation), with the M/Z of2074.51Da、2569.63Da、5349.35Da、5084.58Da、9096.87Da. Conclusion:1. In this study, we can get therehave some protein’s metabolic turbulence in Low birth weight infant.2.Low birth weight infant may be due to in vivo protein expression defector imbalance, Caused by certain protein content was lower or higher thanthat of Normal birth weight of neonates. Premature low birth weightinfants may be due to in vivo protein expression defect or imbalance,Caused by certain protein content was lower or higher than that ofNormal birth weight of neonates.3. Using SELDI-TOF-MS techniquestool to research Low birth weight infant related protein’s metabolicfeature may be provide the reference for the clinical treatment of Lowbirth weight infant.
