PURPOSETo observe the clinical characteristics of non-traumatic retinal detachment in juvenile undergoing pars planavitrectomy and to evaluate the surgical outcome of them.METHODSRetrospective observational case series.49consecutive cases (aged6-18years) undergoing primary pars planavitrectomycollectied from Department of Ophthalmology, Xiangya2nd Hospital from Nov2005to Dec2007were studied. The surgical process and prognosis were analysed in all the patients. Several meaningful cases have been discussed.RESULTS1)The age of the patients is from6to18, and the ratio of the male and female is3:1.2) Myopia among all the causes is for the most(23.5%).3) The ultimate retinal reattachment ratio is86.3%, with13.7%of cases having silicone oil remained. The visual acuity postoperatively has increased in38eyes(74.5%). The obvious increase in visual acuity has been present postoperatively(P<0.05).4) The binomial Logistic regression analysis identified the significant factors for the retinal anatomical reattachment including: PVR、the situation of lens、age, and the rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS1. Males are the most in all juvenile with retinal detachment undergoingvitrectomy. Myopia might be the main cause.2. Though the ultimate retinal reattachment and the visual acuity are promising, the general surgical result of the pars planavitrectomy needs to be raised further more.3. The binomial Logistic regression analysis identified the significant factors for the retinal anatomical reattachment including: PVR、the situation of lens、age, and the rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (P<0.05).
