[Objective] To investigate epidemiological characteristics of pneumoconiosis in Hunan province from2006to2010, and provide a scientific basis for drawing protective measures against pneumoconiosis.[Methods] Case report data of pneumoconiosis in Hunan province which were selected from occupational online direct reporting system were entered into Excel database and analyzed. Statistical tests for significance were performed by use of variance and χ2test using SPSS16.0statistical software. A difference at P≤0.05was considered statistically significant.[Results]①A total of7735cases (7664male,71female) were diagnosed as pneumoconiosis from2006to2010in Hunan Province. Among them,94.53%cases were newly reported; and the reported cases in2010accounted for the first. Mostly cases exposed to dust beginning in the1970s and1980s. The average onset age was (49.9±9.4) years. Cases from small business accounted for68.65%.②Newly reported cases were distributed on the whole14districts of Hunan, most were from Shaoyang district, followed by Loudi district, Changde district. Most of cases were mainly concentrated in workers who were engaged in coal production, followed by non-ferrous metal building material and health、 social security and social welfare. The main types of work causing pneumoconiosis ranked in top3were main coal mining workers, main excavation workers and drilling workers. The main types of pneumoconiosis were coal miner’s pneumoconiosis, silicosis and the other-pneumoconiosis. There were47.63%cases from non-publicly owned enterprises.③The average work year of pneumoconiosis was (16.8±8.3) years, presenting statistically significant difference in pneumoconiosis stages, types of work and types of pneumoconiosis; As well as the average onset age of pneumoconiosis, statistically significant difference were observed on types of work and types of pneumoconiosis. There were779Coal worker’s pneumoconiosis (CWP) combined with tuberculosis cases among all7735cases, and the concurrent rate was10.07%.④Since50s last century to the end of2010, Hunan province has issued accumulative newly cases60825, cumulative dead cases13094. From2006-2010, there were101accumulative dead cases, and the main death causes were in order of pulmonary heart disease, circulatory system disease, pneumoconiosis, trachea, bronchus and lung tumour.[Conclusion] Pneumoconiosis is the main occupational disease in Hunan. Among the newly reported cases, the main types of occupation causing pneumoconiosis were mine industry; the main types of work causing pneumoconiosis were main coal mining workers and main excavation workers primarily; the main types of pneumoconiosis were silicosis and coal worker’s pneumoconiosis. The majority cases were male; the average of attack age was40-60years old, mainly from private enterprise and small enterprises, presenting a local and industry-intensive distribution. Progression and deterioration of pneumoconiosis was one of the main causes of pneumoconiosis dead cases, with pulmonary heart disease and circulatory system disease being the leading death cause.
