Objective:By summarizing, analyzing and researching the effectiveness and applications history of Chinese herb Niu Xi systematically, the thesis discussed the clinical thinking and the application of evolution of the period of doctors applying Niu Xi. and layed a good foundation for the prevention and treatment of disease research of applying Niu Xi. and had important academic value and practical significance, and provided important ideas and methods how to apply Chinese medicine correctly.Methods:The thesis was based on’Zhong Hua Ben Cao’edited by Wu Yi-Gu and Song Li-Ren and’Zhong Yi Fang Ji Da Ci Dian’edited by Peng Huai-Ren. The method was to combine prescription with drugs each other, and to collect and sort out the function and indications of Niu Xi and prescriptions composed of Niu Xi.And picking out288prescriptions of applying Niu Xi,12of the herbal prescriptions involve single usage of the herb whereas the rest of276are combinations with other herbs. The thesis was taken’A survey of traditional and modern prescriptions containing Niu Xi’as the title, according to the order of dynasties, and this enables an insight into how the applications of Niu Xi developed or changed over the long period of TCM..Results:The study results are:(1) The single basic functions of Niu Xi is nourishing liver and kidney, strengthening the bones, treating malaria.(2) The compatibility effect of Niu Xi is activating blood flow, diuresis, going down with blood.(3) Summary the various kinds and names of diseases which were treated by Niu Xithe with other drugs together.Conclusion:The thesis researches medical literatures and experience laid behind by various TCM physicians on the usage of Niu Xi. It systematically explores the development pattern of Niu Xi and provides new insight into proper usage of the herb.
