Objective:to investigate the effect of two disinfectant solutions on the dimensional accuracy and dimensional stability of ChemomentTM addition silicone dental impression materials. This work would provide a disinfection guideline for clinical use of this made-in-China addition silicone impression product.Methods:45impressions reproduced from ChemomentTM addition silicones were taken by using two-step putty/wash technique from a master plastic model, and were divided randomly into3equal treatment groups, namely the Control Group, Group1and Group2with15impressions in each group. The impressions of the Control Group were washed by running water; the Group1impressions were immersed in a2%alkaline glutaraldehyde disinfectant solutions; the Group2impressions were immersed in a84TM disinfectant solution with0.3%chlorine content. Stone models were made from these45silicone impressions. Measurements of vertical and horizontal dimensions between landmarks in the master and stone models were carried out using a vernier caliper. F test was applied to compare the dimensional accuracy and stability of all the models. Results:The measurements between corresponding landmarks in all the stone models were similar; the changes in the dimensional accuracy and stability between the experimental groups and the control group were not significant. In comparison of the linear change-rate among three groups, in particularly for AB and DE, it was found the linear change-rates of AB and DE from experimental groups were higher than ones from the Control Group with no disinfection. Conclusions:Disinfection of silicone dental impressions should be performed in clinical use. Two types of disinfectant solutions, one is2%alkaline glutaraldehyde solution and the other is commonly used84disinfectant solution with0.3%chlorine content, can be used for the disinfection of ChemomentTM silicone dental impression materials. The above two disinfectant solutions have no significant effects on the dimensional accuracy and dimensional stability of ChemomentTM addition silicone impression materials.
