Coronary disease is a chronic illness with high incidence and mortality. It not only damages people’s physical health, but also causes a heavy financial burden to the patient himself, his family and the society at large. With the fast growing of the economy, there comes more and more pressure from life. This pressure gives rise to the number of people who suffer coronary disease. At the same time, it shows a trend that coronary strikes more and more young people. This trend not only aggravates the financial situation of the patient and his family, but also causes huge lost of public wealth. The huge financial burden makes the situation worse for the low income families as their capability to fight the difficulties brought about by the disease is very limited. Therefore, paying close attention to the patients with coronary and making effort to alleviate their financial burden should become our goal of work. This research tries to find out all the factors that build up the cost for coronary disease including expenses for outpatient and hospitalization service which can be considered as treatment fee (direct cost); other expenses that are non-treatment (side expense) such as board and lodging, transportation etc.; and available working hours lost by the patient, the family and other nursing staffs. The research techniques applied are mainly survey and statistics analysis. By analysis of all these factors which impact the cost for coronary disease, the research paper finally comes to the conclusion on what methods can be used to alleviate the financial burden for those patients who suffer coronary disease.Research finding shows that the financial burden of patients with coronary disease is very heavy reaching30%to40%of a regular sized family’s average annual income. Factor analysis showed that elements which affect the financial burden caused by coronary disease include:level of education which would impact the outpatient service fee; factors such as gender, complicating symptom, exercise history, family annual average income, and knowledge of coronary disease etc. would all shape patients’hospitalization expense; level of comprehension of the disease would change patients’direct treatment cost; gender, age, level of education, complicating symptom etc. would impact patients’side expenses. Some suggestions on policy making are raised based on the analysis of factors which impact the cost caused by coronary. These suggestions include, putting more emphasis on community hospital on disease prevention; increasing public awareness of health care and coronary prevention; utilizing current medical service resources more effectively; standardizing pharmaceutical market etc.
