Objective:To evaluate the application value of the therapy of recombinant adenovirus p53injection together with transcatheter hepatic arterial chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma.Methods:22patients with advanced HCC treated only with TACE served as control group. Another22patients with HCC treated with TACE in combination with recombinant adenovirus-p53injection served as experimental group. Patients were followed up for12monthes. Safety and therapeutic effects were evaluated according to the improvement in clinical symptoms, leukocyte count, survival rate, metastasis rate, AFP, Karnofsky and RECIST criteria.Result:The effective rate of experimental group and control group were81.8%,45.4%respectively. The tumor body was reduced more significantly (P<0.05) and Karnofsky score was higher(P<0.05) in experimental group. The postoperative fever was more common (P<0.05) than that in control group. There was no significant difference among the other adverse effects(P>0.05) between two groups.Compared with control group, the number of tumor progress after treatment in the experimental group was less(P<0.05). There is no significant difference in the twelve-month survival rate and the time of metastasis between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:The treatment of recombinant adenovirus-p53injection in combination with TACE for patients with advanced primary hepatocellular carcinoma can strenghthen the anti-cancer effect and improve the life quality of patients. The rAd-p53gene therapy in combination with TACE is a safe and effective treatment modality for advanced HCC.
