OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to investigate the findings andvalue of clinical application of thin64-slice CT with2-D、3-D reconstructiontechniques in reconstructed ossicular chain after stapes surgery with insertion ofa piston prosthesis.METHODS: Thin-section64-slice CT scan and2-D、3-D reconstruction of9patients after stapes surgery with insertion of a prosthesis,including6successful cases (with postoperative air-bone gap less than15dB and nocomplications) and3failed cases (with postoperative complications orunsatisfactory hearing), were performed. Reading and evaluation wereperformed by two otologists and one radiologist.RESULTS:1. Thin-section64-slice CT with2-D、3-D reconstructiontechniques could accurately demonstrate the structures in the postoperativemiddle and inner ear, including the reconstructed ossicular chain after stapessurgery.2. One case with piston displacement out of the oval windowfenestration, one case with malleoincudal dislocation, and one case with bonefragments into the vestibule and piston displacement were found in the3failed cases.CONCLUSION: Thin64-slice CT and reconstruction techniques are ofgreat value in finding the causes of failed stapes surgery, which could helpclinicians select appropriate treatment methods, evaluate the treatment outcomeand improve surgical techniques.
