Siratitiae Fructus is the dry fruit of the cucurbitaceous plant Siraitia grosvenorii (C. Jeffrey ex Lu et Z. Y. Zhang). It is the material which can be used as traditional Chinese medicine and food. It has been recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, stateing that it could help to moist lung for clearing heat as well relieve constipation. Due to the plant is best known for its fruit in Chinese Medicine, the cauline leaves are usually discarded. In order to make full use of this plant resources, this paper is going to compare and analysis on quality and pharmacodynamic of the herbal extracts of cauline leaf, so as to provide the scientific evidence for the development and utilization of the cauline leaf of this traditional Chinese herb.1. By using the visible-ultraviolet spectrophotometry, this paper comparative analysis the main effective ingredients, total flavone in the extracts both its cauline leaf and fruit, and establishes the reliability of the content determination method. The results indicate that the content of the cauline leaf extract is345.11mg/g of flavonoids, but the fruit extract only13.87mg/g, the flavonoids in cauline leaf extracts is20times more than in the fruit extracts. Therefore, this study provides the significant scientific evidence for development and utilization of its cauline leaf.2. By using high performance capillary electrophoresis method, this paper researches the fingerprints and build the standardization fingerprint of two extracts. Comparative analysis of two fingerprints showed different. The fruit extract has15fingerprints common peaks, but the cauline leaf extracts has14fingerprints common peaks, there are only two common chromatographic peaks which are kaempferitrin and quercetin. In the first of the fruit extract of the fingerprint has a higher area of chromatographic peak which is number2fingerprint peak, but it is not present in the cauline leaf extracts of the fingerprint. The cauline leaf extracts has a fingerprint peak which is rutin, but there is not preasent in the fruit extract of the fingerprint. The result indicated that the main components of the cauline leaf extract of Momordica grosvenori are flavonoids, and it is higher than the fruit extract.3. By useing the type II diabetes rat model (NIDDM) to research the extract of the fruit and cauline leaf of Momordica grosvenori. The results show that both two extracts can improved FBG, serum insulin and lipid of NIDDM rats in different level; however the cauline leaf extract can obviously improve the rat serum insulin levels compare to the fruit extract (P<0.05). In order to explore the effect of fruit and cauline leaf extract on the liver and kidney function of NIDDM rat, the figure of liver and kidney of experimental animals has been examined after they have been given drug for30days, found that two extracts would restore on liver oxidation index, renal24hour trace albumin and endogenous creatinine clearance to a certain degree. However the animals appeared some certain degree enlargement of the liver and kidney after they were given higher dose of cauline leaf extracts. In summaries, this paper used the research methods of various disciplines to analysis and study fruit extract and cauline leaf extract of Momordica grosvenori. The result of this research indicated medicinal parts material basis of the cauline leaf extract of this herbal medicine, and also provide the scientific evidences for its development and utilization.
