Objectives:To explore the indications, surgical techniques, therapeutic experience, prevention and treatment of postoperative complications of combined liver-kidney transplantation (CLKT), in expectation of a further guide for clinical work. Methods:The clinical and follow-up data of7cases of recipients who underwent combined liver-kidney transplantation in our department, from January2005to September2010, were retrospectively analyzed. Results:All operations were successfully performed. Postoperative complications occurred in4cases, including pleural effusions (2), intra-abdominal bleeding (1), biliary complications (1). All complications were treated conservatively.7cases of combined liver-kidney transplantion recipients’graft functioned immediately, and serum creatinine of the recipients returned to normal level within one week. In addition to one case of polycystic liver and kidney disease died at13months after surgery due to bacterial and fungal infection of lung, the remaining6cases were survive. Patients were followed up for liver and kidney function that is normal, and no significant rejection. As of the last follow-up, the longest survival has reached seven years. Conclusions:Combined liver-kidney transplantation has been proven to be a favorable treatment for combined renal and hepatic end-stage disease. However, recipients receiving CLKT have a long medical history, poor general condition that is often accompanied by anemia, hypoalbuminemia, coagulopathy, water-electrolyte imbalance and acid-base disorders. Furthermore, due to the significant trauma, complicated process, technically demanding, difficulty and high risky, it is important to control strictly of surgical indications. It is also very important to observe closely and treat in time during the perioperative period. Two organ can be treated concurrently by CLKT which has unique immunological characteristics and satisfactory effects. Worthy of promotion in the case of strictly control the surgical indications.
