Objective To analyze the clinlicopathologic features and the prognosisof primary small intestinal lymphoma. Methods Patients were included in the study based on standard diagnosticcriteria for primary gastrointestinal lymphoma, and were treated at the firstaffiliated hospital of Chongqing medical university between2001and2010.Results The study comprised29adults. The age of patients ranged from20to87, the mean age was52years old. About72%of the patients were over40years and41%over60years. The sex ratio was almost1.9:1. The mainsymptom of the PSIL cases was abdominal pain (76%). Few cases wereaccompanied with B symptoms (31%). Hemorrhage, obstruction could be seenin these cases which were the severe complications of PSIL. Clinical staging:Stage IE-II1E for21cases. The most common site was the ileum. Sixty-twopercent patients had diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Only2caseswere eventually confirmed through endoscopy. The pathology was the goldenkey for diagnosis of PSIL. The main therapy is still surgery combinedchemotherapy or radiotherapy. Age, sex, surgery are independent prognosticfactors for better patient survival. Conclusion Most patients of PSIL were the adults and male predominant, the most common site was the ileum. No special symptoms could be found forthe diagnosis of PSIL. Patients often have the first admission whenaccompany with hemorrhage or other complications. Biopsy must be used indiagnosis of the disease. The combined therapy is still the main treatment of PSIL. The age, sex and the clinical stage may be the three sensitive predictorsof prognosis.
