Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the single common cause of death in China. After decades of declining CAD death rates, the incidence of acute coronarysyndromes has continued to rise. Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is a safenoninvasive evaluation of test tools to accurately delineate coronary artery disease.Although coronary artery angiography is the gold standard for coronary heart disease, but there is ample evidence to support the cost of CCTA, and its wide range ofclinical applications. It is not only able to judge the degree of coronary stenosis, anomalous origin of coronary artery course variation and to terminate the exceptiongiven to precutaneous coronary intervention after preoperative guidance and a clearassessment of treatment efficacy, follow-up after coronary artery bypass graftspatency; can shunt patients with acute chest pain, and improve the diagnosis oftimeliness, select the appropriate and timely treatment. Coronary CT angiographyrepresents a technological evolution in cardiac imaging due to improved spatial andtemporal resolution. Coronary CT angiography has demonstrated high sensitivity andspecificity, and in particular, a very high negative predictive value, which makes it avaluable imaging modality for screening patients suspected of coronary artery disease, and it has been reported to play an important role in predicting disease progressionand cardiac events, Use of cardiac CT can reduce health care costs and length ofemergency department stays for patients with chest pain. The purpose of this review isto present an overview of coronary artery disease in the diagnostic accuracy andpredictive value by considering the role of coronary CT angiography, as well as thecoronary artery disease of definition, epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and complications, treatment, and prognosis. The emerging field of CCTA, including the dual-source CT,256and320slice spiral CT arediscussed, Limitations of coronary CT angiography and future directions of cardiacCT angiography are highlighted. its development as a modality which can replaceprevious diagnostic methods has been anticipated.
