Objective: To study BRAFV600E mutation in Papillary thyroid carcinoma and itsconnection with sonographic findings.Materials and Methods: The study included34fresh papillary thyroid carcinomatissue samples and its neighboring tissue from patients with surgically confirmedpapillary thyroid carcinoma. All patients underwent ultrasound The BRAF V600Emutation was determined using allelespecific polymerase chain reaction and directDNA sequencing. We retrospectively compared the ultrasound findings of noduleswith and without the mutation, including size, margin, calcifications. Results: Of34carcinoma samples, BRAF V600E mutation happened in18samples(52.9%) and didn’t happen in the rest16(47.1%). Of all the34neighboring samplesBRAF V600E mutation didn’t happen. The patients with the BRAF V600E mutation,on ultrasound, didn’t show statistically significant differences with patients withoutthe BRAFV600E mutation in size, margin, calcifications. tumor margin, andultrasound diagnosis between the two groups. Conclusions: BRAFV600E mutation of Papillary thyroid carcinoma didn’t havestatistically significant connection with the sonographic findings of the nodules.Sonographic findings can’t predict the presence or absence of the BRAF(V600E)mutation of a papillary thyroid carcinoma.
