Objective:To compare the effects of high-intensity and low-intensity aerobic exercises on pulmonary ventilation function and exercise endurance of patients with mild to moderate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.Methods:60patients with COPD were divided into high-intensity (with70percentage of Peak Power tested in the cardiopulmonary exercise)aerobic exercise group(n=20),low-intensity(with50percentage of Peak Power tested in the cardiopulmonary exercise) aerobic exercise group (n=20) or control group (n=20). All patients took the cardiopulmonary exercise test before and after training period, the period of aerobic exercise was12weeks,3times every week, high intensity group did exercise for40minutes per time with4secsions,and each section was5minutes with5minute interval, while low-intensity took20minites continuously ecercise every time. Results:There was no significant difference (P>0.05) in all variables in three groups before training. After training, the difference value (after and before training) of the exercise endurance time、peak power and peak oxygen uptake (VO2max) in three groups were significantly different (P<0.05),and the values of high-intensity group improved more than the other groups; there was no significant difference between control group and lower-intensity group in maximal exercise ventilation (VEmax)(P>0.05),but high-intensity group increased more than the other groups.Only high-intensity group increased more than control group in anaerobic threshold (AT)(P﹤0.05)Conclusion:1. Aerobic exercise can improve the Exercise Endurance Time、Peak Power and Peak VO2,in other words,it can improve the exercise endurance of patients with mild to moderate COPD; high-intensity group can increase more than lower-intensity aerobic exercise.2. High-intensity interval aerobic exercise can increase the VEmax and AT, accordingly can improve the pulmonary ventilation function and exercise endurance of patients with mild to moderate COPD,but low-intensity group increased less.3. Patients with mild to moderate COPD can accept70percentage of Peak Power of the cardiopulmonary exercise, and it’s safe.
