Objective:To observe the general status such as activity, food consumption, weight, blood routine, liver and kidney function, main organ coefficients, pathologic biopsy of the SD rats affected by moxa smoke by the way of sub-chronic toxicology, so as to evaluate the security of moxa smoke.Methods:160SPF SD rats(half male and half female, weight80g-100g) were randomly divided into4groups:High Moxa Smoke Dose Group, Middle Moxa Smoke Dose Group, Low Moxa Smoke Dose Group and Normal Control Group. Except for the normal control group, the rats in the other three groups were separately sent into the boxes containing moxa smoke of2223.4mg/m3,444.68mg/m3,88.93mg/m3,6hours/day,5days/week, for3months. Observe the changes of their general status such as activity, diet, weight and so on through the experiment. Half of the rats in each groups were dissected after the contamination and the rest were dissected one month after the contamination. Analyze their blood routine, liver and kidney function, main organs coefficients and histopathology. Results:1、The rats in the moxa smoke dose groups kept quiet when they were sent into the boxes, and they excreted frequently with normal forms. In addition, the fur of the moxa smoke dose groups became thick and yellow, and the higher the dose, the more the change. There is no significant difference in food consumption and weight between the moxa smoke dose groups and the normal control group.2、After the contamination, There are significant differences in mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin of the High Moxa Smoke Dose Group, monocyte%and albumin of the Middle Moxa Smoke Dose Group compared with that of the Normal Control Group(P<0.01or P<0.05), but waving in the normal ranges. There is no significant difference in other indicators of blood routine, liver and kidney function between the moxa smoke dose groups and the normal control group.3、One month after the the contamination, there are significant differences in neutrophil, monocyte, glucose, aspartate aminotransferase of the High Moxa Smoke Dose Group, red blood cell volume distribution width, creatinine, total protein, albumin of the Middle Moxa Smoke Dose Group compared with that of the Normal Control Group(P<0.01or P<0.05), but waving in the normal ranges. There is no significant difference in other indicators of blood routine, liver and kidney function between the moxa smoke dose groups and the normal control group.Conclusions:1、Moxa smoke had no obvious toxic effect to the general status such as activity, food consumption and weight.2、Moxa smoke had no obviously immediate and delayed toxic effect to the blood routine, liver and kidney function, main tissues and organs of SD rats.3、Moxa smoke is almost safe.
