Backgroud:Radix Notoginseng is the dry root of Panax notoginseng(Burk.) F. H. Chen. The main avtive ingredient of Radix Notoginseng is panax notoginseng saponin (PNS), which reaches to12%in the content of its dry root. Our privious researches have proven that PNS can inhibite Angiotensin production, reduce the expession of tumor necrosis factor-α and restrain matrix metalloproteinase-2actived by activating Angiotensin-converting enzyme2. It can significantly improve thepathological lesions in left ventricular myocardial cell, decrease cardiac index, increase the systolic and diastolic functions of left ventricular, relieve the ischemic reperfusion injury in rats with left ventricular remodeling after acute myocardial infarction. Bisoprolol, a selective β1adrenergic receptor antagonist, can improve heart function, reverse left ventricular remodeling, enhance cardiac systolic function and reduce the motality in model rats.Objective:To compare the effect of panax notoginsenoside(PNS) and bisoprolol on improving the cardiac function in rats with left ventricular remodeling (LVRM) after acute myocardial infarction(AMI).Methods:Models of AMI were established by ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery in all of the rats except for the sham-operation group. Twenty-four hours after ligation, AMI rats were given gastric gavage of normal sal ine(2mg· kg-1, modelgroup), bisoprolol (25mg· kg-1, bisoprolol group) and PNS (40,80and120mg· kg-1, PNS groups) respective for4consecutive weeks. After treatment,we observed the rats cardiac function index such as cnd-diastolic intraventricular septal thickness (IVSd),left ventricular end-diastolic dimension(LVIDd),end-systolic intraventricular septal thickness(IVSs), left vertricular end-systolic diameter(LVIDs), end-diastolic left ventricular posterior wall thickness(LVPWd), end-systolic left ventricular posterior wall thickness(LVPWs), ejection fraction(EF), the percentage of left ventricular systolic(FS), early-diastolic mitral orifice flow velocity(MV), and heart rate(HR).Results:Compared with the model group, EF and MV were significantly improved in high-and middle-dose PNS and bisoprolol group(P<0.01),and FS was increased while LVIDd and LVIDS were decreased in middle-dose PNS group and bisprolol group(P<0.01~0.05).Conclusion:Both PNS and bisoprolol can improve the cardiac function in LVRM after AMI, and they can be used to treat LVRM rats after AMI.
