ObjectiveTo compare the surgical wounds of percutaneous compression plate(PCCP) and intertrochanteric antegrade nail(INTERTAN) on the treatment of femoral intertro--chanteric fractures.MethodsA retrospective study was done on data of38patients with femoral intertrochanteric fractures treated in our hospital from January2010to January2012. They were divided into group one(24patients, treated with PCCP) and group two(14patients, treated with INTERTAN). Hospitalization times, surgery times, blood loss, hidden blood loss, blood transfusion and albumin concentration were compared.ResultsThe PCCP technique resulted in shorter surgery times, lower blood loss and hidden blood loss, and consequently lower transfusion need. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the hospitalization times.ConclusionsCompared with INTERTAN, the PCCP technique is less invasive, and maybe better for elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fractures.
